Taxonomy - the Science of Classification
Taxonomists are scientists who classify organisms based on their evolutionary relationships with one another. Karl Linnaeus is known as the father of taxonomy and is one of the first scientists interested in classifying organisms. He devised a way of naming, ranking, and classifying organisms according to how related they were. The use of taxa (groups) in organization helps biologists to understand relationships. The more taxa two organisms share the more related they are.
