Diversity in Organisms
Take a look at the image to the left. How are these beetles different? How are they the same? Each beetle has a unique DNA structure that dictates the physical appearance. The environment that each beetle lives in will act on it independently - selecting which individual will survive and be successful. This is the process known as Natural Selection. Success is determined by an individuals ability to reproduce and pass on their DNA.
What does Diversity mean to you?
Ever notice how a group of the same species may all be slightly different?
This diversity is due to genetics - Random Mutations that occur in DNA that code for the organisms physical characteristics and the environment.
