Task one
In this first task you will look at a particular animal group, for example dolphins, sharks, horses, cats etc. and explore why there are several species within that group. What factors of the environment selected the various adaptations of individual species to form?
- Choose a family of organisms, for example sparrows, cats, pine trees, a particular family of fungus, and research the different species that exist in the family. Choose a minimum of three species in that family to focus your research on. For each species you chose determine what environmental factors account for the particular physical differences.
- Write a summary of the characteristics of each of the chose species outlining any similarities or differences they may share.
- Include in your summary a description of the environment in which the species exists and relate the environmental factors to the unique characteristic(s) that each of the species you chose has.
